IVI in association with the L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), organised
a "Low Vision Awareness Program" at LVPEI on 20th September 2013.This
was attended by diverse group of 90 participants from different regions of the
country. The participants comprised practicing optometrists, optometry
educators, optometry students, ophthalmologists, hospital administrator and
rehabilitation science students.
The highlight of the program was the opening
talk by a 30 year-old-gentleman, an engineer with Albinism who has been a
long-term patient (18 years) with low vision of the Meera and L B Deshpande
Centre for Sight Enhancement at LVPEI. In his inspiring talk, he provided a
first hand account of " What it means to live with Low Vision" and
set the scene for rest of the program. His talk was well received and served as
an eye opener for several participants. The program consisted of a mix of
didactic lectures and hands-on session with low vision devices that were
provided by a galaxy of experienced low vision specialists and rehabilitation
professionals from LVPEI.
