Amit Dasgupta is
Indian diplomat who was Consul General of India in Sydney during 2009-12.
continues to be associated with Australia as the Inaugural Country Director of
the University of New South Wales (UNSW) since 2016. In this role, he not only
promotes UNSW but also Australia as an education destination that offers
quality education, excellent quality of life and services, and security for
students. In his interactive sessions and in numerous articles that he has
written, he has championed collaboration in higher education and research as a
strong pillar in the bilateral relationship.
Mr Dasgupta is a
Distinguished Fellow of the Australia India Institute and a Senior Fellow at
the Society for Policy Studies. His diplomatic career has taken him to Cairo,
Brussels, Kathmandu, Berlin, Sydney and Manila, where he served with
distinction. He was Ambassador to the Philippines, with concurrent
accreditation to the Republics of Palau, the Marshall Islands, and Micronesia.
Apart from being an author,
he has also been published in academic journals, civil society magazines and
newspapers on matters related to foreign and security policy, management and
leadership issues, and on education and government policy.
