Ocean to Vision:
Turning Waste into Sight
Read about our sustainability initiatives tackling two urgent challenges at once: plastic pollution and affordable eyewear for people in underserved communities. It is all about repurposing discarded materials to create quality spectacles, proving that environmental responsibility and social impact can go hand in hand.
Plastic waste is one of the world’s fastest-growing environmental crisis and the optical industry has a unique role to play in creating solutions. Our initiatives are proving that sustainability and social impact can go hand in hand, transforming discarded plastic into functional eyewear and giving unused frames a second life for people who need them most.

Our focus areas
The initiative includes two focus areas to explore different dimensions of impact:

1
Frames from Recycled Fishing Nets
We initiated a pilot to manufacture spectacle frames from recycled nylon fishing nets. The nets are cleaned, pelletised and transformed into sturdy, stylish frames.
-
Over 6,000 recycled frames produced so far
-
Project launched by the French Ambassador to India, HE Thierry Mathou, on 10 November 2025 at an outreach camp for a fishermen community at Neelankarai, Chennai.
-
Fishermen were screened on-site and given these recycled spectacles, an event widely covered by the press.
Ocean to Vision is building a circular model for eye care where no frame is wasted, and every frame has the potential to change a life.
2
Giving Old Spectacles a Second Life
In partnership with Titan EyePlus, we collect donated spectacles through in-store collection boxes.
-
Usable frames are refurbished, sterilised and fitted with new lenses
-
These are distributed through our vision screening programs in underserved communities
-
Frames that cannot be reused are responsibly recycled to avoid further waste

Through IVI’s sustainability campaign, Titan showrooms are collecting used spectacles in dedicated boxes, to be repurposed and given to those who need them most.
