Selvamani, Salem
Selvamani G, 56, from Tamil Nadu's Salem district, has been a trucker all her life. Driving had given her decent wages and stability. She chose the path knowing fully well that it was going to be challenging, even difficult at times.
Things were going well until vision impairment began troubling her. Not being able to see clearly was a nagging problem. Fortunately, Selvamani heard about IVI’s truckers’ vision screening program in association with Sightsavers India at the Salem lorry parking lot. Not one to miss the opportunity, she got her vision checked at the camp, and on being found to have distance vision impairment, was provided a pair of corrective glasses.
We are happy to have played our part as Selvamani has got back to driving her truck with renewed confidence. As she says, it's a new lease of life. All thanks to a vision check and a pair of spectacles. Vision screening of commercial vehicle drivers has been among IVI’s priorities. When drivers see well, there will be safer roads, fewer accidents and casualties, especially pedestrians.
Thank you Sightsavers- RAAHI for the support.
