24-hour Global Day of Learning for Eye Care Professionals

India Vision Institute (IVI), the Indian NGO working to provide access and a free pair of corrective glasses to the underprivileged, is managing a global 24-hour online event of the World Council of Optometry (WCO), ‘Eyes Around the World – A Global Day of Learning’, on November 20.

The event can be viewed in different time zones that will enable eye care professionals and optometrists from different parts of the world to join in, and engage in sharing and learning.

The World Council of Optometry is an international membership-based non-profit organization for individual optometrists, industry professionals and optometric organizations.

“This unique event will facilitate exchanges among optometrists and promote optometry education and clinical practice,” said IVI’s CEO, Vinod Daniel.

Professor Kovin Naidoo, Congress Committee Chair, World Council of Optometry, said “the day-long event is a unique way for optometrists across the world to come together and learn about current practice trends and manage some of the big challenges to eye health today.”

Eyes Around the World will feature some 25 speakers from 12 countries who will deliver lectures on clinically significant themes such as diabetes, dry eye management, myopia management and specialty contact lenses, optometry education and research.

According to WCO, the continuing education program targeting practicing clinicians and optometric educators is an extension of the commitment of WCO to become a regular resource for optometrists around the globe.

The IVI-managed event will provide delegates with a wonderful viewing experience to help compensate for the restrictions in attending such events physically. The website for the event www.wcoeducation.org launched on 27 October and is accepting registrations.

Eyes Around the World is supported by the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO), CooperVision and the International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE).
