A one- day comprehensive workshop on Ocular Prosthetics was organized by the India Vision Institute (IVI) in collaboration with Dr D Y Patil Institute of Optometry and Visual Sciences in Pune on 21 November 2015.
Ocular Prosthetics involves an artificial replacement for an eyeball damaged due to disease or injury or artificial eye. Ocularistry is among the fast evolving trends in Indian Optometry.
Facilitated by Mr Sachin Gupta, Director, Art Eyes, New Delhi, the workshop focussed on introduction to Ocularisty, disfigurement of eye, making and fitting of prosthetic eyes and managing ocular discharge.
“Ocular prosthetics plays an important role in restoring the confidence of the person opting for a replacement of the lost or disfigured eye that can be both physically and emotionally painful. IVI aims to familiarize and train Optometry practitioners in Ocularistry through this workshop.” said Mr Vinod Daniel, CEO, IVI on the occasion.
The workshop was attended by over 45 Optometry practitioners, educators and students from Dr D Y Patil Institute, Bharati Vidhyapeet University,Pune; Laxmi College of Optometry,Mumbai; Nagar School of Optometry,Ahmedabad among other Optometry institutes and Eye hospitals across India. The workshop was highly appreciated with participants requesting IVI to organize advanced modules of the workshop in future.
