The fifth batch of the IVI Young Leaders Program
(YLP 2017-18) concluded with the workshop conducted on 5 and 6 May 2018. The
participants of the fifth young leaders program were Salai Dhavamathi,
Unnati Vaish, Paras Desai, Mosaib Omaer, Pawan Kumar, Gaurav Dubey, Rahul Roy,
Shaik Faheemuddin and Harish Kumar. In addition Venkatesh, Riswan Rasheed and
Ramesh Kumar Shukla (from YLP IV batch) also completed the program with the
bridging opportunity provided.
The third workshop dealt with a range of subjects
including being an entrepreneur, strategic leadership, effective leadership
& problem solving, accessible eye care in rural
India and a glimpse into the optical market; updates on OCI and ASCO;
and strategic elements involved in an event management were discussed. Prominent entrepreneurs like Steve Borgia and Sanjay
Umashankar; eminent optometry facilitators like Lakshmi Shinde, Aditya Goyal,
Elizabeth Kurian and Dr Santosh Moses interacted with the group.
The batch undertook two group
projects in the areas of leadership, communication skills and personality
development training program among optometry students in India. Additionally,
individual projects were also undertaken by the participants.
The IVI leadership initiative has
created a pool of 44 young leaders in Optometry and eye care since its launch
in 2013. The program provided the participants
an unmatched opportunity of building networks among the Indian Optometry
community along with giving them a deeper understanding of their role in
bringing up eye care in India.
