IVI organized Change the Game: workshop on Sports
Vision at the NSHM Knowledge campus in Kolkata on 25-26 September and Dr.
Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital, Delhi on 28-29 September 2014.
Training in Sports vision improves the visual
abilities of sportsmen required for securing excellence in the sport they play,
including eye-hand coordination, dynamic visual acuity, tracking, focusing,
visual reaction time, and peripheral vision. The workshop emphasized on the
importance of visual performance assessment designed to meet the requirements
of each sports and how optometrists can play an important role in improving the
visual capabilities of sports personnel.
Over 70 participants including optometry
practitioners, educators and students from a number of optometry institutions
including, Vidyasagar College of Optometry, Rotary Eye Hospital, Ramakrishna
Mission, NSHM, Vasan Eye Care, Lions Hospital, RSEI, Radiant Eye Foundation,
Ashram Biwaniwalla, Health & Opticare, Amity University, Dr.Shroff’s
Charity Eye Hospital, AIIMS, Venu Eye Institute, K D Dalmiya Eye Hospital, GKB
Opticals, UP RIMS, NAEI, Netra Mandir, Teerthankar Mahaveer University and
Fortis Eye Hospital participated in the workshop.
The workshop was facilitated by Professor Graham
Barclay Erickson, a Diplomat in the Binocular Vision and Paediatric Optometry
Section of the American Academy of Optometry, Fellow of COVD, and Professor at
Pacific University College of Optometry.
