Two ‘train the trainer’ workshops for Optometry educators were held in Kerala and Gujarat. Thirty participants from 16 colleges participated in the two workshops held in Cochin, November 9-10, 2014 and Surat, November 14-15, 2014. The two Brien Holden Vision institute Academy EyeTeach©: from Clinician to Educator workshops emphasized best practices in teaching and learning and was organized by the India Vision Institute. “IVI since its inception has worked towards setting up a strong education foundation in India for optometry and helping the existing educators’ achieve better skills in teaching and learning has always been one of our highest priorities.” said Mr Vinod Daniel, CEO, IVI.
“Organized under the aegis of the IVI Academy for Eyecare Educators, Eyeteach workshops - providing all round faculty development comprising best practice in teaching and learning, have trained over 200 optometry educators in India since IVI’s inception in 2011”, he added.
The participating institutions included Rayhan College of Optometry, Sharat Laser Eye Hospital, Lotus Institute of Optometry, Dr Tony Fernandez Eye Hospital, Dr. J.M. Institute of Ophthalmology and Research Center, Little Flower Hospital and Research Center, Giridhar Eye Institute, Vinayaka Mission, Nagar School of Optometry, Optometry R & T Institute, Dhrashti Netralaya, College of Optometry and Ophthalmic Sciences, Harijyot College of Optometry and Ocular Prosthetic and Opticals.
The workshops were facilitated by Ms Helen Dalton, Education Consultant and Ms Salma Ismail, Global Education Officer, both from the Brien Holden Vision Institute, Sydney and was supported by the Little Flower Hospital and Research Centre, Angamaly in Cochin and the Shree Bharatimaiya College of Optometry in Surat.
