Continuing with its vision screening programs, India Vision Institute (IVI) today distributed 260 free spectacles for industrial workers of Chennai's Ambattur Industrial Estate Manufacturer's Association (AIEMA).
A total of 423 men and women were screened.
An additional 149 spectacles will be distributed during mid-January. This is following a large two-day vision screening camp held in Ambattur in mid-October.
Those who helped conduct the screening were Ms Ajitha and Ms Meena Parekh from the Elite School of Optometry Alumni Association, Chennai. Internship students Ms Monisha and Ms Bismi Nisha from the Shri Prakash Institute of Optometry, Chennai volunteered for the screening.
IVI CEO Vinod Daniel said the campaign truly represented a collaborative initiative. "IVI thanks all those who cooperated with us in the screening." Adult workers with uncorrected refractive errors are 34% more productive with a simple pair of glasses. “
Mr. Robert M.V., AIEMA Hon. Treasurer, expressed his appreciation to IVI for conducting the vision screening campaign and said “we are keen to support such activities” so that more workers in the Ambattur area can benefit.
IVI also acknowledges the support of Essilor Vision Foundation for providing free spectacles.
